Walking the streets of Oxford, surrounded by medieval buildings and a deep sense of its lengthy past, one cannot ignore this city’s beautiful history. To help you feel more connected to this city we call home for much of the year, we thought that we would point you to some key historical dates in Oxford’s development as a city, from the tenth to nineteenth centuries.
Oxford is a city steeped in history, where present-day students and locals get to enjoy centuries-old traditions. Beyond all the academics, Oxford is full of rituals, ceremonies, and unique customs, so we thought we’d outline some of these below for you to get to know the city hosting you a bit better.

A fundamental part of being a representative at the United Nations (and, thus, at a MUN Conference) is an awareness of global events. Given that the theme of OG’s 2025 Home Conference is ‘The Spirit of Inquiry’, we think it is important to stay inquisitive about international news. From August, we will discuss three articles, with related questions to allow you to inquire about what is going on worldwide.
We’re Natalie and Joana, and we’re the Secretary General and Director General of OG’s 2025 Home Conference! Together, we lead the Secretariat team for this year’s flagship event in November. From big-picture planning to the small but important details, we’re working behind the scenes to make sure our 2025 conference is as smooth, engaging, and memorable as possible. Our goal is to create a weekend that challenges, inspires, and welcomes every delegate who joins us in the city of Oxford.
Hello! Our names are Terry, Victoria, and Rebecca, and we are the USG for Content team for OG. What have we been up to recently? Well… we are hard at work preparing for the fall conference! As the USGs for Content, we are in charge of conference materials, like the Delegate Handbook and the Conference Booklet. Currently, we are in the process of editing the many Background Guides for the conference, written by members of our lovely Secretariat and wonderful OG community. We also selected the committees and topics for the conference.
Imagine a room packed with passionate students from across the globe, each representing a different nation with unique pasts and priorities, discussing, debating, and drafting together to find solutions to the world’s most pressing issues. This is fundamentally what Model United Nations (or MUN for short) is about.
What is the Spirit of Inquiry?
At its core, diplomacy isn’t about having all the answers — it’s about asking the right questions. The spirit of inquiry is what drives us to challenge assumptions, seek out diverse perspectives, and engage in meaningful dialogue to find solutions that truly last.
This year, as we gather for OxfordMUN 2025, we invite delegates to step into this mindset — one of curiosity, critical thinking, and open-minded exploration.
Now that the conference is fast approaching, we thought we’d introduce you to your chairpersons! Each committee will have one Main Chair, one or two Co-Chairs, and potentially an Assistant Director as well. The Main Chair will be your main point of contact and will be leading the Dais - here’s a few details about all of them, so you can get to know them a little bit better before the conference!
Participating in your first Model UN conference can be an exhilarating experience, but at times it may appear to be overwhelming. Having gone through the experience ourselves, I have compiled a short list of things that I wish I knew before stepping into the committee room for the first time. It might seem frivolous but how you dress is how you present yourself to the world and to each other, and a smart outfit is a sign of respect towards your peers and towards the conference. Hi guys! I’m Ayala, the Under-Secretary-General for Community Building and I’m going to explain a little more about my responsibilities and my role in the conference. I absolutely love what I do and hopefully by the end of this blog you’ll understand why - if you have any questions about my job please feel free to come and have a chat in November!
Under Secretary General for Content is the role that covers the writing, editing, formatting and final publishing on the Background Guides that delegates use to inform their research on their committee, as well as side-tasks such as proofreading these blog posts, designing training materials for both delegates and chairs, and running mock sessions! It’s an exciting role with a lot of variety and creativity involved, so without further ado, meet you USGs for Content:
