UNSC
United Nations Security Council
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is entrusted with the maintenance of international peace and security, placing it at the heart of the most urgent questions in global diplomacy. With powers unmatched by other UN bodies, the Council must respond to crises whose consequences extend far beyond the chamber itself, shaping both the course of conflict and the credibility of the international system. Its debates are defined by urgency, responsibility, and the tension between principle and political reality. More than any other committee, UNSC asks delegates to consider how precedent, instability, and risk shape international decision-making at the highest level.
How big will this committee be? This will be a small committee.
Is this a single- or double-delegate committee? This is a double-delegate committee, so delegates will work in pairs to represent their assigned country or position together.
How much experience do I need to sign up for this committee? This committee is best suited to delegates who are already very familiar with MUN and confident navigating a fast-paced and demanding committee environment. It is a particularly good choice for delegates interested in crisis response, geopolitics, international law, and high-stakes decision-making.
How much will I have to speak in this committee? Due to the small size of this committee, delegates should expect to speak frequently in each session. The double-delegate format allows delegates to share responsibilities, but all participants should be prepared for an active and highly engaged style of debate.
How will debate be structured in this committee? This committee will broadly follow our standard Rules of Procedure, with some adaptations to reflect the structure and powers of the Security Council, including the role of the P5. Any committee-specific guidance will be shared in the background guide.
