UK Parliament

UK Parliament is an innovative committee designed to replicate the real dynamics, procedures, and party politics of Westminster. Rather than representing countries, delegates step into the role of Members of Parliament, debating as part of a political system shaped by government, opposition, compromise, and competing national priorities. The committee offers a different kind of diplomatic challenge: one rooted in persuasion, legislation, and the art of political negotiation within a domestic setting. In doing so, it invites delegates to explore how ideas become policy, how parties shape decision-making, and how political institutions respond to the pressures of the present while remaining shaped by tradition, precedent, and public debate.

How big will this committee be? This will be a medium-sized committee.

Is this a single- or double-delegate committee? This is a single-delegate committee, so each delegate will represent their assigned position independently.

How much experience do I need to sign up for this committee? This committee is best suited to delegates who are already familiar with MUN and are ready for a new challenge in an innovative format. It is a particularly good choice for delegates interested in politics, legislation, debate, and the dynamics of real-world parliamentary decision-making.

How much will I have to speak in this committee? Due to the medium size of this committee, delegates should expect to speak a moderate amount in each session. At the same time, the format allows some flexibility, so delegates can choose to contribute more or less depending on their confidence and whether they want to challenge themselves.

How will debate be structured in this committee? Debate in this committee will draw on our standard Rules of Procedure, alongside specific procedural elements unique to the UK Parliament format. Delegates should therefore be familiar with the standard RoP and review the additional guidance provided in the background guide and preparation materials.
