Organization of American States

The Organization of American States (OAS) brings together countries across the Americas to promote democracy, human rights, security, and cooperation throughout the region. As one of the world’s oldest regional organisations, it provides a forum for states to address political crises, humanitarian challenges, and threats to regional stability through collective action.

At NoviceNations 2027, delegates will confront the complex crisis facing Venezuela, where political instability, economic hardship, displacement, and natural disasters have placed immense pressure on ordinary people. Discussions will centre on how countries across the Americas can respond to these overlapping challenges while navigating difficult questions of sovereignty, democracy, humanitarian assistance, and regional responsibility.

How big will this committee be? This will be a medium-sized committee.

Is this a single- or double-delegate committee? This is a double-delegate committee, so delegates will work in pairs to represent their assigned country or position together.

How much experience do I need to sign up for this committee? While delegates of all skill levels are welcome, this committee is particularly well suited to newer delegates. The double-delegate format allows less experienced or more nervous delegates to collaborate closely with a partner. It is a particularly good choice for delegates interested in politics, human rights, humanitarian issues, and regional cooperation.

How much will I have to speak in this committee? Due to the medium size of this committee, delegates should expect to speak a moderate amount in each session. The format also allows some flexibility, so delegates can choose to contribute more or less depending on their confidence and whether they want to challenge themselves.

How will debate be structured in this committee? This committee will follow our standard Rules of Procedure.
