DISEC

Disarmament and International Security Committee

DISEC, the Disarmament and International Security Committee (First Committee), sits at the heart of some of the most enduring questions in international diplomacy: how peace is preserved, how conflict is prevented, and how security is negotiated in a changing world. As one of the principal committees of the General Assembly, it considers disarmament, international security, and the principles that shape cooperation between states in the maintenance of international peace and stability worldwide. In an era of shifting threats and evolving forms of conflict, DISEC challenges delegates to reflect on past approaches to security, confront present realities, and consider what the future of international stability should look like.

How big will this committee be? This will be a very large committee.

Is this a single- or double-delegate committee? This is a double-delegate committee, so delegates will work in pairs to represent their assigned country or position together.

How much experience do I need to sign up for this committee? This committee is best suited to delegates who are already familiar with the basics of MUN and ready to engage with more complex security issues. The double-delegate format allows delegates to collaborate closely with a partner. It is a particularly good choice for delegates interested in international security, conflict, disarmament, and the changing nature of global threats.

How much will I have to speak in this committee? Due to the very large size of this committee, delegates should expect to speak a few times in each session. The double-delegate format also offers flexibility, allowing delegates to share responsibilities and contribute in a way that suits their confidence level.

How will debate be structured in this committee? This committee will follow our standard Rules of Procedure.
