Academic Research Workshops

About

Oxford Global’s newest event series, Academic Research Workshops! Led by Oxford Global’s Joana, a PhD student at Oxford, the Academic Research Workshops are designed to give high school students a taste of Higher Education research. In its sessions, it covers basic concepts such as methodology, theory and hypothesis, as well as skills such as analysing sources and forming logical arguments. Beyond that, it introduces students to research-focused and study-aid software which can be used for revising, writing and learning. Through the ARW, students can start understanding what it means to do academic research, and also develop certain skills that are of use to their day-to-day life, such as close-reading of texts and the structuring of an argument. This workshop also supports students into refining their critical thinking, looking at ideas and texts from a different perspective than the one they might be using in school.

The ARW is currently formatted as two sessions, each of them lasting two hours, and we will offer sessions throughout the year for both individual students and school groups.

For Individuals

Hosted by Oxford Global members who are current graduate level students at the University of Oxford, these workshops allow individual students to attend small, interactive group sessions over two days. These workshops allow students to discuss their own research interests, brainstorm, and collaborate with other students from all over the world. The fee for individuals attending the ARW is £80 gpb.

For schools

Are you interested in attending the Academic Research Workshops as a school group? We are able to tailor sessions to fit your schools needs. Workshop sessions can be held online or in person (if your school is based in the UK). We also offer opportunities to tailor the sessions to the students interests, such as by focusing on a particular topic or issue or discussing specific research skills. If you are interested in the ARW for your school, please send an email to info@oxfordglobal.org and we would love to work with you.
